After the serious part of the purpose of visiting is complete, it is usually time for some fun. Srisailam is a great place if you want to have a memorable time with friends and family. Of course, it goes without saying that the place is considered holy and so people will have to respect and maintain the sanctity of the place.
A great start to the day !
It was a beautiful morning that Sunday, as we looked out from the balcony of our room. The mist was just lifting off the hills and the air was like a fresh cup of filter coffee.
Within minutes, something gold and gorgeous emerged from between the clouds, so bright and glowing it was that our camera refused to take its off it.
It was an absolutely stunning view of the sunrise ! We couldn’t have asked for a better start to the day.
A strong cup of hot coffee at a stall nearby was the icing on the cake. Since we had to vacate our room by 9 AM, we got ready and set off for the rope car ride.
Rope car ride to Pathalaganga
The rope car down the hill all the way to the Krishna River also called Pathalaganga is one of the fun things to do at Srisailam. The ride lasts only 5 minutes at the maximum but the joy of becoming a child again is timeless !
The rope car ticket counter timings are between 8 AM and 4 PM. You can combine a rope car ride with a boat ride to the dam site or a rope car ride and a trip to Akkamahadevi Caves, which, if you have the time is not to be missed.
Since we had already visited Akkamahadevi Caves in an earlier trip, we chose the boat ride.
On the way down, the rope car stopped midway for some reason, it scared the hell out of us, alright, scared the hell out of this writer, the others seemed to enjoy the thrill of being suspended hundreds of feet above a steep valley and a might river !!
The boat ride to the dam site and back takes about 20 minutes, the waiting time for the boat may take longer, actually ! It is a pleasant ride on the river, cool breeze and the hills and the dam as a backdrop.
The ride back on the rope car gave us some splendid views of the Nallamala Hills and the Krishna River, beauty beyond words !
By the time we got back, it was 11 AM, we decided to head back to Hyderabad. We also hit upon the idea of packing food and stopping for lunch in the forest along the highway.
The drive back on the ghat road saw us stopping once again at the landmarks and breathtaking views of the Srisailam Dam and the river valley.
As planned to stopped by in the forest by the roadside, spread out our lunch and relished the food as much as we savoured the greenery, chirping of birds and crawling of insects !
Srisailam is one place we would drive down to again and again, the place never ceases to amaze us.
